THROW-OUT BEARINGS

Early model throw out bearing for vw. Early style will have removable clips that attach to small round stubs on both ends of the bearing. Check out your combination carefully before order because these can be mix matched between all years by changing the throw out bearing arm. When inspecting your old bearing, make sure to check out how it attaches to the throw out arm. Late style bearings have clips that are built into the bearing and the ears on both sides are flat. These are also aligned on the pressure plate with a tube that is bolted to the back of the bellhousing that allows the throw out bearing to glide back and forth on. Also if your pressure plate has a ring in the center of it then this isn't the correct bearing and you will need to get a early style. Since parts can be interchanged between both swing axle and IRS transmissions it is very important that you look at this before ordering. This operating shaft sleeve for aircooled VW transmissions is bolted on the bell housing of IRS transmissions. This sleeve aligns the throw out bearing with the pressure plate. If your pressure plate has a ring in the center of it, then either you cannot use this or you will need to to replace your pressure plate because you have a mix match of years.
